    For the following week, across over 150 countries, millions of people will try out computer programming for the first time as part of Computer Science Education Week. Anyone can learn to code, including you!

    Start your Hour of Code 

    What is the Hour of Code?
    The Hour of Code is an hour-long introduction to computer programming that’s both fun and free. At Khan Academy, we’ve crafted several tutorials that require no prior experience. Try one or try them all and earn badges for each tutorial you complete!


    Hour of Drawing with Code: Learn to program drawings using JavaScript, one of the world's most popular programming languages, via two great options:

    • Typing: keyboard-based coding (ages 10+).
    • Drag-and-drop: block-based coding for those with less typing experience or on iPads/tablets (ages 8+).

    Hour of Webpages: Learn to make your own webpages using the basics of HTML and CSS (ages 10+).

    Hour of Databases: Learn the fundamentals of databases using SQL to create tables and query the data (ages 12+).

    We’ve created these tutorials to show you how fun coding and building things can be. Now you’ll be part of creating technology, not just using it. Ready to start your Hour of Code

    Funding Available for You


    Did you know as part of your NCTM membership you can apply for Mathematics Education Trust (MET) grants, scholarships, and awards to help you in your career in mathematics education? 

    MET provides funds to support classroom teachers in the areas of improving classroom practices and increasing teachers' mathematical knowledge. MET also recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of mathematics and provides grant funding for NCTM Affiliates to initiate professional activities or programs.


    We encourage you to apply for a grant or scholarship that will advance your career and help you increase your effectiveness as an educator. Funding ranges from $1,200 to $24,000 and is available to help math teachers, prospective teachers, and other math educators improve the teaching and learning of mathematics.

    Introducing AP Computer Science Principles

    Launching in fall 2016, AP Computer Science Principles introduces students to the foundational concepts of computer science and challenges them to explore how computing and technology can impact the world. In this webinar, participants will learn why and how this new course was developed, how it differs from and complements the existing AP Computer Science A course, and the ways it attracts and engages traditionally underrepresented students with essential computing tools and multidisciplinary opportunities.     Stamford has instituted the Stamford STEMfest which is a day of free activities centered around STEM. This festival is modeled after Ireland's Maths Week. The Stamford STEMfest goals include: 1) building an awareness about STEM for students and their parents, 2) demonstrating to students how much fun these disciplines can be, 3) showing students how these disciplines are inherent in many of the things we do every day, and 4) having students learn about the career and college opportunities in STEM. This event has been extremely successful in getting all students and the community to learn about STEM. The event is now being done in other cities around the country. Learn about this event, how it has impacted the community, and how you can get involved!

    Engaging Every Learner Through Hands-On Instruction presented by Sara Moore

    A solid understanding of fractions is critical for student success in mathematics.  The language of fractions is precise and often confusing to learners.  Manipulative models provide a structure for helping students master the vocabulary of fractions and see the connections between whole number operations and fraction operations.  This workshop will share strategies for using manipulatives to model and build conceptual understanding of fraction operations.
