    Dear MoMath friend,

Spread the word!  MoMath is hosting three fun sessions for K-6 educators this summer.  Sign up now for FREE food, FREE events, and even a FREE t-shirt to the first 25 registrants!

If you’re a K-6 educator who wants to improve or enjoy your relationship with math, don’t miss MoMath’s new Roundtablesessions.  Three evenings of engaging exploration and play will help you see a side of math you never knew existed!

    Sessions include:

    • Mathematical Magic for Muggles: Learn how the simplest of mathematical ideas, like "an odd plus an odd is even" and "x + -x = 0" can help us to craft magic tricks that seemingly bestow superhuman powers on us.  No skill required!

    • Compositions for Cavepeople: Counting the number of ways to decompose a number into sums is a fiendishly challenging puzzle.  Explore various ways to represent sums and the patterns that emerge from them, and see how changing our point of view can help us get started on a novel problem!

    • Picking Points for Practitioners: Is there a relationship between area and perimeter?  Play with Geo boards and discover connections between boundaries and interiors — then see if you can prove them!

Sessions will include a lighthearted, engaging approach to math, a shared meal, reflections on pedagogy, and the opportunity to make new friends.

Be among the first to sign up for all three sessions and receive a free MoMath t-shirt!  In addition, participants who sign up by July 28 can enjoy priority seating at presentations from two of the nation’s most entertaining math presenters, Persi Diaconis and Art Benjamin.

Don’t miss this fun-filled week beginning July 31 — you’ll return to school energized about math!  Register now at mtc.momath.org.

    FREE Math Education Webinars

Summer is a great time to refresh and recharge. Catch up on reading, interact with peers online, and get teaching tips to bring back to your classroom this fall. This month, NCTM has two new opportunities to learn and collaborate with your colleagues.

Dive deeper into topics presented in recent messages from NCTM President Matt Larson or learn about new NCTM publications in one of our upcoming webinars. In July, Webinar Wednesdays will discuss STEM education and the recently released publication, Enhancing Classroom Practice with Research behind Principles to Actions.

Join us for these free webinars and share your insights before, during, and after the events on social media with the hashtag #NCTMLive. Join your peers in the mathematics education community and let's learn together!

    Math Education Is STEM Education

    July 19 | 7:00 p.m. ET

In this webinar, NCTM President Matt Larson discusses design principles which would ensure that an effective science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) program builds mathematics understanding. Larson's argument is that there is only one fundamental and critical design principle necessary. We will address this more during this webinar.

Enhancing Classroom Practice with Research behind Principles to Actions

    July 26 | 7:00 p.m. ET

14787.jpgEnhancing Classroom Practice with Research behind Principles to Actions summarizes and synthesizes the research behind each of the guiding principles and essential elements of Principles to Actions: Ensuring Mathematical Success for All and offers examples of what they can look like in classroom practice. During this webinar the editors will provide an overview of the book and describe the various ways in which classroom teachers, teacher educators, instructional coaches, and administrators might use the book. Then we will delve into specific examples from a few chapters to illustrate the direct connections between Principles to Actions, research, and classroom practice.

We would like to invite you to the National Math Foundation (NMF) Summer Institute this August in beautiful Oswego, New York. Join us on the sparkling shores of Lake Ontario for two days (August 7-8, 2017) or four days (August 7-10, 2017) learning kinesthetic teaching strategies that will help you shift your students to more fun and more success!

A sponsor has generously offered to donate a

Math & Movement "Skip Counting by 2s" floor mat for EVERY teacher that comes to the four-day Institute!

This is an exciting new feature of the four-day option of the Summer Institute and we cannot guarantee it will be available in 2018 – so sign up now for 2017! Teachers will be awarded the "Skip Counting by 2s" mat in our final session, Thursday, August 10. All teachers who attend the two-day or the four-day option receive over $300 of books and have access to our grant writer for additional grants.

    Special 2017 bonus!

We encourage classroom teachers, math coaches, PE teachers, special education, RTI specialists, and all other educators to attend this exciting professional development! During the Institute, participants will be fully trained to implement the Math & Movement program and other movement based learning in the classroom, collaborate with same subject teachers, experience a variety of presentations from movement-based learning experts, and, best of all, get to practice what they have learned with students.

The NMF will be conducting a four-day School Age Youth Program with students in grades K-5 at the same time as the Institute. Participants of the Summer Institute will work one-on-one and in small groups with these students. Summer Institute participants are invited to bring their own children (grades K-5) to the camp for just $75 for four days of learning and fun!

Please download the brochure for more details or visit the NMF website.

If you are a NYS teacher, we encourage you to register for the Summer Institute on My Learning Plan through TST BOCES. Both the two- and four-day options have been added to My Learning Plan. Following are the links.
