ATOMIC Professional Development Grants
Background
The Associated Teachers of Mathematics in Connecticut supports the goals outlined by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) in its publication Principles to Action. In order to encourage widespread involvement in affecting positive change in our mathematics classrooms, a grant for up to $250 will be awarded to a maximum of eight Connecticut educators per calendar year who are members of ATOMIC through either individual or school memberships.
Purpose
The ATOMIC Professional Development Grant is designed to provide funds directly to teachers for professional development that will enrich their practice. Professional choice will be allowed.
Criteria
A selection committee will evaluate the proposals on the basis of how effectively they support the NCTM Standards and student learning.
Follow-Up
It will be the responsibility of each awardee to write a short summary to ATOMIC at the completion of the school year for which the award was given. This summary should describe primary outcomes/topics of the professional development and how it will impact teaching and learning. The summary will be published in the ATOMIC Newsletter. The grant committee will contact grant awardees with a timeline for article submission. We encourage awardees to share the PD resources with their colleagues.
Deadline
We are now accepting grant applications.
Applications must be submitted before December 31 for the school year ending in June. Any applications submitted after December 31 will be considered during the following school year.
