Illustrative Mathematics is a problem-based core mathematics curriculum that develops students' mathematical thinking skills through questioning, discussion, and real-world contexts and connections.

Unit overviews help teachers structure their lessons so that the progression of the big mathematical idea in the unit is coherent. We will discuss how teachers can incorporate instructional decisions such as effective questioning, pacing, formative assessment, and differentiation. Illustrative Math unit overviews consist of eight 2-hour virtual unit overviews per grade level.

Virtual Coaching

Adding on the option of virtual coaching will give each participant access to three virtual coaching sessions with a Certified IM Facilitator. The virtual coaching sessions will be focused on the instructional routines that are embedded in the IM curriculum, and will contain the following phases:

Phase 1: Coach holds a 30-minute virtual conference with the participant to discuss an instructional focus.

Phase 2: Participant records a focused “snapshot” lesson segment and uploads video to the private, secure virtual coaching platform.

Phase 3: Participant views video and reflects, while coach views and provides personalized feedback.

In-district coaching or support is also available. Please contact Lindsey Ramos at liramos@crec.org for further information. For assistance with registration, contact Deborah Van Wyngaarden at dvanwyngaarden@crec.org or 860-509-3687.

The ATOMIC Mission is to ensure that every Connecticut student receives world-class education in mathematics by providing vision, leadership and support to the K-16 mathematics community and by providing every teacher of mathematics the opportunity to grow professionally.
