    The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) and Smarter Balanced are recruiting qualified educators to support the following assessment activities in 2021: 

    o       English/Language Arts Item Review for Content, Fairness, and Accessibility
    o       Mathematics Item Review for Content, Fairness, and Accessibility
    o       English/Language Arts Passage Review
    o       Mathematics Achievement Level Descriptors Review
    Applications are due by May 3, 2021 and can be accessed at https://smarterbalancedassessment.wufoo.com/forms/zpj6bf914r3ysj/.  The meetings will be held virtually.  Participants will receive training and relevant digital materials prior to meeting. The meetings are expected to occur on Zoom and accessibility accommodations will be available for participants who need them.     MTC4SJ will be offereing a session on racial profiling and statistics.

    Title: Racial Profiling
    Date/Time: Tuesday, March 16th, 6:30-8:00pm (EST)
    Location: Zoom (you will receive a link on Tuesday morning if you register)

    Description: Do police officers disproportionately pull over Black drivers during discretionary stops? In this session, participants will create mathematical models from data supplied by the Connecticut Racial Profiling project in order to investigate how proportions and sampling variation play into answering this question.

  • Recruiting for Smarter Balanced SNE Virtual Summer Workshops

    Smarter Balanced is currently recruiting educators for the State Network of Educators (SNE) summer virtual workshops being held on June 14-18 and July 12-16, 2021.  More information is available on the Smarter Balanced web site (https://sne.smartertoolsforteachers.org/recruit/). Educators who meet the qualifications listed below can indicate their interest by submitting a RSVP to Smarter Balanced.     Educators should meet the following qualifications:
    1.      Currently certified or licensed in ELA/literacy, mathematics, English learners, or students with disabilities.
    2.      Currently teaching in, or employed by, a public school, district, or state education entity, including higher education
    3.      Currently (or within the past three years):
    Teaching ELA/literacy or mathematics in grades 3 through 8 or working in a classroom content support role such as a literacy or district or state content specialist;

    Teaching students with disabilities or English learners, in grades 3 through 8 or working in a support role such as a district/school coordinator or instructional specialist; OR

    Working in a classroom content support role such as a literacy or mathematics coach/coordinator or instructional specialist.

    I Love Math Coloring Contest

    The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and ORIGO® Education, an innovative PK–6 math solutions provider, have come together to kick off a fun coloring contest for students in grades 3–12.

     

    The goal is to get students to make creative connections to math, using story problems and colors, and to make a positive association to the subject. It’s also fun! 

     

    Teacher submissions can be made for grade bands 3–5, 6–8 and 9–12.

    Submit your class entries by April 1 and you could be eligible to win one of three complimentary registrations to the NCTM 2021 Annual Meeting & Exposition in Atlanta, September 22–25, and specially selected ORIGO product.

  • Free book and lesson study - middle school

    Sharing an opportunity for middle school math and special educators! This book and lesson study is FREE and the participating teachers can earn $500! The work is part of an OSEP funded grant aimed at increasing algebraic understanding for middle school students, especially those in special education.
