If you’re a K-6 educator who wants to improve or enjoy your relationship with math, don’t miss MoMath’s new Roundtablesessions.  Three evenings of engaging exploration and play will help you see a side of math you never knew existed!

Sessions include:

• Mathematical Magic for Muggles: Learn how the simplest of mathematical ideas, like "an odd plus an odd is even" and "x + -x = 0" can help us to craft magic tricks that seemingly bestow superhuman powers on us.  No skill required!

• Compositions for Cavepeople: Counting the number of ways to decompose a number into sums is a fiendishly challenging puzzle.  Explore various ways to represent sums and the patterns that emerge from them, and see how changing our point of view can help us get started on a novel problem!

• Picking Points for Practitioners: Is there a relationship between area and perimeter?  Play with Geo boards and discover connections between boundaries and interiors — then see if you can prove them!

Sessions will include a lighthearted, engaging approach to math, a shared meal, reflections on pedagogy, and the opportunity to make new friends.

Wondering what to do when the fireworks are over?  MoMath keeps the excitement going with the math of zombies, the music of Pete Muller (now with special guest performance by Marcus Miller), and the New York Math Festival.  Good math reads, math in finance, an overnight hackathon, and the math of magic, all await to fill your summer days.  From math in the courtroom to math in the classroom, keep connected with math all summer long, only at MoMath.

We would like to invite you to the National Math Foundation (NMF) Summer Institute this August in beautiful Oswego, New York. Join us on the sparkling shores of Lake Ontario for two days (August 7-8, 2017) or four days (August 7-10, 2017) learning kinesthetic teaching strategies that will help you shift your students to more fun and more success! A sponsor has generously offered to donate a  Math & Movement "Skip Counting by 2s" floor mat for EVERY teacher that comes to the four-day Institute!  This is an exciting new feature of the four-day option of the Summer Institute and we cannot guarantee it will be available in 2018 – so sign up now for 2017! Teachers will be awarded the "Skip Counting by 2s" mat in our final session, Thursday, August 10. All teachers who attend the two-day or the four-day option receive over $300 of books and have access to our grant writer for additional grants.
