I LOVED the story about the mathematicians that wrote letters together and crossed countries, generational, gender, and political barriers to work together on a concept. My favorite line was "If you really are 22, I am especially pleased to think that when I first made the conjecture you were a baby and I just had to wait for you to grow up!"

I think that sometimes, kids just look up to "older" people and think they have all the answers. I love when teachers admit to their students that they don't know it either. Working together helps them to understand, but the idea that they need time on their own is needed too.

I also loved the thinking about having vertical spaces to write on, like the Isaac Newton Institute. As I think about classrooms going back to "normal" hopefully, I can totally see rooms with no desks and lots of vertical writing spaces. It reminded me of my favorite TV show, The Big Bang Theory, and how Sheldon and Leonard always had whiteboards in their apartment/offices. Makes me want to make sure I have them available in my house for my kids to always get their thinking down!
