I am excited to be restarting the book study!

1 thing I am finding challenging these days is the lack of time, I feel like I never have enough time to do everything on my plate, and I miss being able to do math game days in classrooms.

1 goof thing I feel grateful for these days is the collaboration that is happening between myself and the teachers as we plan for our hybrid instruction.

I am so excited to get back to this book! With everything that went on in the Spring I will definitely be rereading Chapters 1-5. I am a K-2 Math Coach in New Milford, CT.

1 thing that I am finding challenging these days in getting into classrooms during math without interrupting the flow of the in person kids vs. the online kids

1 thing I am feeling grateful for these days is supportive colleagues. My fellow coaches are super supportive in everything that we are doing. The teachers are also being super supportive and recognizing the support we are trying to provide for them.

I am excited to be resuming the book study, and hopeful that we can engage with each other despite the significant demands on everyone's time & energy teaching this year.

I am an educational consultant & former secondary teacher in New Canaan CT. I continue to work with students and teachers online.

What I am finding challenging is staying in touch with people without the in-person conferences and activities of "normal" times.

I am grateful for wifi/internet connections to others (friends, family, students, professional colleagues) and getting out to walk the dog in the fresh air.

Hi, I am a grade 3 - 6 math coach in Madison. One thing I am finding challenging is supporting teachers in the use of technology to make distance learning/ hybrid work. I am grateful that I work with many colleagues who support one another and collaborate and share work to make it easier on each other.

Hi, I'm Jen Rianhard from Sherman School. I teach math intervention for grades K-5.
1 thing that is challenging is all the extra duties I have to do this year due to Covid (lunch/recess/bus/homeroom), that takes away from my intervention.
1 thing I'm grateful for is being back in the building and servicing my struggling math learners.

Hi! It’s good to be back on our book discussion. I’ve learned a LOT from this book and I’m looking forward to learning more. My name is Peg Murray, I live and teach in New Britain CT. This year I’m still teaching third grade, but next year I’ll be moving up with my class and I’ll be teaching fourth grade math. This book has really helped me improve my math instruction, and last year, just before the world went topsy-turvy, I took the Middle School math Praxis and passed. I credit working with this book, as well as many hours of studying, to helping me pass the praxis. I’m not sure if I’ll actually apply for the certification because I don’t really want to change positions, especially not with things the way they are now.

One thing I’m finding challenging this year is continuing to teach in a pandemic situation. Our district is operating on a hybrid arrangement, so I’m teaching students in person and virtually. I’m really the math geek on my team, so I’ve been recording lessons for all our math classes, which sometimes makes me rather anxious. I don’t mind making a mistake in front of my students when we are live, but making a mistake in a video can be a real PAIN, especially if I have to re-record to fix it.

One thing I’m very grateful for is some improvements my daughter and I made at our house last spring. We changed our internet provider and increased our WiFi which became critically important when I had three college kids taking classes while I was trying to teach remotely from our family room. We also chose to replace our old printer, which was very helpful as I was researching math materials last spring. Looking forward to hearing from all of you about your challenges and successes.

      Hi Peg,
So glad you are back with us to discuss Becoming Math!
I think we all agree that reliable WIFI is something to be grateful for.
