We would like to invite you to the National Math Foundation (NMF) Summer Institute this August in beautiful Oswego, New York. Join us on the sparkling shores of Lake Ontario for two days (August 7-8, 2017) or four days (August 7-10, 2017) learning kinesthetic teaching strategies that will help you shift your students to more fun and more success! A sponsor has generously offered to donate a  Math & Movement "Skip Counting by 2s" floor mat for EVERY teacher that comes to the four-day Institute!  This is an exciting new feature of the four-day option of the Summer Institute and we cannot guarantee it will be available in 2018 – so sign up now for 2017! Teachers will be awarded the "Skip Counting by 2s" mat in our final session, Thursday, August 10. All teachers who attend the two-day or the four-day option receive over $300 of books and have access to our grant writer for additional grants. Special 2017 bonus!      We encourage classroom teachers, math coaches, PE teachers, special education, RTI specialists, and all other educators to attend this exciting professional development! During the Institute, participants will be fully trained to implement the Math & Movement program and other movement based learning in the classroom, collaborate with same subject teachers, experience a variety of presentations from movement-based learning experts, and, best of all, get to practice what they have learned with students.  The NMF will be conducting a four-day School Age Youth Program with students in grades K-5 at the same time as the Institute. He proposes that we seek balance and break the historic cycle of pendulum swings. We need to return to, promote, and implement in our classrooms the NRC definition of mathematical literacy. Introducing our students to engineering is a national need.  Most students love to be creative and to connect academics to the real world….this is what engineers do while making technologies that solve serious world problems.  The UConn School of Engineering is holding its 18^th annual daVinci Project.   It is a weeklong (Mon-Fri) residential series of hands-on workshops for middle and high school science and math teachers. This year it’s being held July 10-14.  Teachers live on campus and participate in one of 10 very engaging workshops, as well as many other seminars, a variety tours through research labs, our state of the art water reclaim and wastewater facilities, and our CoGen plant.  Come and be part of an exciting week of exploration!  We have 27 fellowships available.  Please share this professional development opportunity with the other STEM teachers in your school or district.
