Dear MoMath friends,

Join a giant and unique group performance spectacle!  Stand with your fellow math enthusiasts to “highlight” the Winter Solstice in a way only MoMath could dream up — Solstice Stars!  Together, we’ll create a spectacular display — a glowing human heptagram, or seven-pointed star — that wonderfully integrates geometry, light, and the environment around us.  Plus, watch the entire event unfold from above, thanks to a webcam mounted atop the Flatiron building that will transmit images directly to your phone in real time.  Come light up the night skies of Manhattan with us! 

After the event, we'll cap off the evening with warm treats courtesy of DAVIDsTEA.  And you can help others have a warm holiday experience by bringing a can of food to donate to the Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership's food drive.

Connecticut Core Mathematics Users Conference

The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) is offering this conference to support teachers in the implementation of the model curriculum for Geometry and Algebra 2.

Intended Audience: High School teachers using the state model curricula and math curriculum coordinators.

The Hour of Code is an hour-long introduction to computer programming that’s both fun and free. At Khan Academy, we’ve crafted several tutorials that require no prior experience. Try one or try them all and earn badges for each tutorial you complete!

Hour of Drawing with Code: Learn to program drawings using JavaScript, one of the world's most popular programming languages, via two great options:

• Typing: keyboard-based coding (ages 10+).
• Drag-and-drop: block-based coding for those with less typing experience or on iPads/tablets (ages 8+).

Hour of Webpages: Learn to make your own webpages using the basics of HTML and CSS (ages 10+).

Hour of Databases: Learn the fundamentals of databases using SQL to create tables and query the data (ages 12+).

Introducing AP Computer Science Principles

Launching in fall 2016, AP Computer Science Principles introduces students to the foundational concepts of computer science and challenges them to explore how computing and technology can impact the world. In this webinar, participants will learn why and how this new course was developed, how it differs from and complements the existing AP Computer Science A course, and the ways it attracts and engages traditionally underrepresented students with essential computing tools and multidisciplinary opportunities. Participants will leave with an understanding of what it takes to bring AP Computer Science Principles to their schools, how to identify teachers for the course, and the support available for curriculum implementation, professional development, and student recruitment.
